Booking a Costume in advance:
Hire charges and the length of hire are agreed at the time of booking.
Once you have chosen your costume, plus any accessories you need, we
take a booking fee of £10 for adults, £5 for children. This amount is deducted from
the final invoice when you collect your costume.
Should you wish to cancel your booking, we do not refund the booking fee, but we
do give you a credit note for the next time you need a costume.
Hiring your costume:
The ‘hire period’ is usually from collection on Thursday evening (when we stay
open until
We try to be as flexible as possible, but obviously we need to get the costumes
cleaned and back in the shop ready for the next customer. Sometimes demand is
so great we need the costumes back the next day (particularly Father Christmas
suits and children’s Tudor or Victorian outfits)
Should you be taking the costume away on holiday, and so need a longer
hire (although, yes, we know… you are only wearing the costume to one party!)
we work out a charge based on one hire period, then half the charge for each
week after that.
Example: You could collect a £20 costume on Thursday the first of the month,
go on holiday on Saturday 3rd, and return the costume on after a
two-week holiday on Monday 19th. We would only charge you £40,
although you will have had the costume nearly three weeks.
Leaving a deposit
When you take the costume out of the shop, we ask for a deposit. This is normally the same as the hire charge (but there is a minimum of £20 for a deposit, even if it is only for one hat!) The deposit is normally a cheque or your credit card details. We only
cash the deposit if you have really upset us!! This means the costume is returned
late, (so if you have a problem PHONE US) or it is excessively dirty, or it is damaged. Difficulties sometimes arise when people lose part of a costume. They consider they have only lost, say, a belt (value £5) but we keep their deposit of £23.50. This is because we have got to replace the belt before the next hiring. If that hiring is three days later it causes us enormous pressure, but even if the costume is not going out immediately, we have got to make or buy another belt - which is a hassle!
The moral: Don’t roll on the floor in a white Elvis outfit, and don’t lose things!! (And if you do - be nice to us!!)
Please note: The deposit does not cover the replacement cost of a costume -
some would cost hundreds to replace. We will pursue (through the courts
if necessary) any costumes not returned.
